Getting Started Questions
Q: How do I create an account?
A: Creating an account is easy:
Download Questmo from App Store or Google Play
Open the app and choose a sign-in method (Google, Apple, Facebook, Email)
Select your role (Parent, Co-Parent, or Child)
Complete the onboarding tutorial
Start creating tasks!
See First Steps for detailed instructions.
Q: What’s the difference between Parent, Co-Parent, and Child accounts?
A:
Parent: Full control - creates circle, manages everything, sets permissions
Co-Parent: Helps manage with parent-set permissions (tasks, rewards, analytics)
Child: Completes tasks, earns XP, claims rewards, unlocks achievements
See Family Setup for role details.
Q: How do I add my children to the app?
A: There are three ways:
Method 1 — Child signs up: Share your 4-character circle code with your child. They open Questmo, select the Child role, enter a nickname and the circle code. Approve their join request from Circle Management.
Method 2 — Create from Circle Management: Open Circle Management, tap the Add Child icon in the app bar, enter a nickname, and tap Create Child Account.
Method 3 — Create from Home Screen: Tap the “Create Child Account” card in the children row on your dashboard, enter a nickname, and tap Create Child Account.
Parent-created accounts join instantly. Co-parent-created accounts require parent approval.
See Family Setup for step-by-step instructions.
Q: Can I create a child account without giving them my phone?
A: Yes! Open Circle Management and tap the Add Child icon, or tap the “Create Child Account” card on your home screen. Enter a nickname and tap Create Child Account. Then share the nickname and circle code with your child so they can sign in on their own device.
Q: What happens when a Co-Parent creates a child account?
A: When a Co-Parent creates a child account, the circle owner (Parent) must approve it first. The Co-Parent receives a notification when the Parent approves or denies the request. This keeps the Parent in control of who joins the circle.
Q: Can I change my child’s nickname?
A: Only the Parent (circle owner) can rename children. Go to Circle Management, tap the pen icon on the child’s card, enter the new name, and tap Save. The change syncs instantly and the child will use the new nickname to sign in.
Family Circle Questions
Q: What is a family circle?
A: A family circle is your private family group in Questmo. It includes:
One Parent (circle creator)
Multiple Co-Parents (optional)
Multiple Children (based on subscription tier)
Shared tasks, rewards, and progress
Q: How do circle codes work?
A: Circle codes are unique 4-character identifiers (like AB12 or XY89):
Automatically generated when parent creates circle
Used by co-parents and children to join
Case-insensitive
Never expire
Can be shared via text, email, or in person
Q: Why do I need parent approval to join a circle?
A: Parent approval keeps your family safe:
Prevents unauthorized access
Ensures only invited family members join
COPPA compliance for child protection
Gives parents control over who accesses family data
Q: Can I be in multiple family circles?
A: No, each account belongs to only one circle at a time. However:
You can leave and join a different circle
30-day grace period to rejoin your original circle
Children can switch between divorced/separated parent circles
Q: How do I leave a family circle?
A: Go to the Circle tab in the bottom navigation > Leave Circle. You’ll have:
30 days to rejoin (restoration period)
Option to join a different circle during grace period
After 30 days, data permanently deleted (GDPR compliance)
Circle Settings Questions
Q: What are Circle Settings?
A: Circle Settings are family-wide configuration options that control how your circle operates. Only the Parent can access and change these settings. Find them in Settings > Circle Management > Circle Settings (behind a parental gate for security).
There are three settings:
Points Per Dollar: Controls the XP-to-dollar conversion rate for rewards
Max Tasks Per Child: Limits how many active tasks each child can have at once
Require Photo Proof: Requires children to submit a photo when completing tasks
Q: What does “Points Per Dollar” mean?
A: Points Per Dollar controls how many XP points each dollar of reward value is worth. This setting helps parents calibrate the “economy” of their circle - how hard children need to work (earn XP) to claim real-world rewards.
Range: 1 to 50 points per dollar
Default: 10 points per dollar
Example: If you set it to 10 points/$ and create a reward worth $5, the suggested XP cost would be 50 XP (5 × 10). A higher value means rewards cost more XP (children work harder), while a lower value means rewards are easier to claim.
Tip
Power-Up Tip: Start with the default (10 points/$) and adjust based on how quickly your children are earning and spending XP. If rewards feel too easy to claim, increase the rate. If children feel discouraged, lower it!
Q: What does “Max Tasks Per Child” do?
A: Max Tasks Per Child sets the maximum number of active tasks each child can have assigned to them at any given time. This prevents overwhelming children with too many tasks at once.
Range: 1 to 20 tasks
Default: 5 tasks
Note
Quest Note: This limit applies to active (uncompleted) tasks only. Once a child completes a task, it frees up a slot for a new one. This is different from the weekly task creation limit (which applies to the whole circle).
Q: What does “Require Photo Proof” do?
A: When enabled, children must take and attach a photo as proof when submitting a task for approval. This helps parents verify that tasks were actually completed.
Default: Enabled (on)
When enabled: Children see a camera button and must attach a photo before submitting
When disabled: Children can submit tasks without photo evidence
Tip
Power-Up Tip: Photo proof is great for chores like cleaning rooms, organizing spaces, or completing homework. You might want to disable it for simple tasks like “brush your teeth” where a photo isn’t practical.
Q: Do Circle Settings affect all children equally?
A: Yes! Circle Settings apply to all children in the circle equally. You cannot set different values for different children. If you need different task limits, consider adjusting individual task assignments instead.
Q: Can Co-Parents change Circle Settings?
A: No, only the Parent (circle creator) can access and modify Circle Settings. Co-Parents can view tasks and rewards but cannot change the circle’s configuration.
Task Questions
Q: How do I create a task?
A: Parents and Co-Parents (with permission) can create tasks:
Go to Tasks tab
Tap the + button
Fill in task details (name, XP, category, difficulty)
Assign to a child
Tap Create Task
See Tasks for complete guide.
Q: What are recurring tasks?
A: Recurring tasks repeat automatically on a schedule:
Daily (every day)
Weekly (specific days)
Monthly (specific date)
Custom intervals
Questmo generates 3 instances ahead to prevent notification flooding.
Q: Can I edit a task after creating it?
A: Yes! Tap any task and select Edit. Changes apply immediately. For recurring tasks, edit the template to affect future instances.
Q: How does task approval work?
A: Children submit completed tasks for review:
Child completes task and taps “Submit for Approval”
Parent receives notification
Parent reviews and approves or rejects
Child collects XP after approval
Q: What happens if a task is rejected?
A: Rejected tasks return to the child’s Quest Log with the parent’s feedback note. The child can redo the task and resubmit.
Q: Do task limits reset?
A: Yes! Free tier task limits (10 tasks/week) reset every Monday at midnight UTC.
XP & Leveling Questions
Q: What is XP?
A: XP (Experience Points) are points earned by completing tasks. XP is used for:
Leveling up
Unlocking achievements
Purchasing avatar items
Claiming rewards
Q: How do I earn XP?
A: Earn XP by:
Completing tasks (varies by task)
Unlocking achievements (bonus XP)
Daily streaks (streak bonuses)
Special events
Q: Does spending XP on rewards affect my level?
A: No! Your level is based on total XP earned, not current balance:
Total XP: All XP ever earned (determines level)
Points Spent: XP spent on rewards and avatars
Current XP: Total XP minus Points Spent
Spend all your XP guilt-free - your level stays!
Q: How does leveling work?
A: Complete tasks to earn XP. XP accumulates toward your next level:
Level 1: 100 XP
Level 10: ~2,500 XP total
Level 50: ~50,000 XP total
Level 100: ~250,000 XP total (max level)
Higher levels unlock exclusive avatar items!
Q: What is the XP formula for leveling?
A: Each level requires more XP than the last. The system uses cumulative XP to determine your level.
Reward Questions
Q: How do rewards work?
A: Parents create rewards, children claim them with XP:
Parent creates reward with XP cost
Child browses reward catalog
Child claims reward (XP deducted)
Parent approves claim
Parent delivers reward in real life
Child marks as delivered
See Rewards for complete guide.
Q: Can children cancel reward claims?
A: No, only parents can cancel claims. This prevents “buyer’s remorse” spam. Think before claiming!
Q: What happens if a reward claim is denied?
A: XP is fully refunded to the child. The parent should include a reason for denial (timing, availability, etc.).
Q: What are affiliate products?
A: Amazon affiliate product integration lets parents:
Browse recommended products
Add products to reward catalog
Set custom XP costs
Purchase when child claims
Questmo earns a small commission supporting development!
