Family Setup
Setting up your family circle is where the adventure begins! Your circle is your team working together to complete quests and earn rewards.
Creating a Circle (Parents Only)
Step 1: Create Your Circle
After signing in for the first time as a Parent, you’ll automatically be prompted to create a family circle:
The app will generate a unique 4-character Circle Code (e.g., AB12)
This code is your family’s private invite code
Write it down or tap the Share button to send it to family members
Note
Quest Note: Circle codes are case-insensitive and use letters and numbers. They look like: AB12, XY89, QT42, etc.
Step 2: Customize Your Circle
You can customize your circle from the Circle tab in the bottom navigation:
Circle Name: Give your family circle a fun name
Circle Settings: Configure notifications and permissions
Member Management: View all members and their roles
Tip
Power-Up Tip: Choose a fun circle name like “The Adventure Squad” or “Quest Masters” to make it more exciting for kids!
Inviting Family Members
Inviting Co-Parents
To invite another parent or guardian:
Share your 4-character Circle Code with them
They sign up/sign in to Questmo
They select Co-Parent as their role
They enter your circle code
You receive a join request notification
Go to the Circle tab in the bottom navigation > Approval Requests
Tap Approve to add them to your circle
Important
Achievement Unlocked: Co-Parents need your approval before joining! This keeps your family circle secure.
Setting Co-Parent Permissions
After approving a Co-Parent, you can set their permissions:
Create Tasks: Allow them to create and assign tasks
Create Rewards: Allow them to add rewards to the catalog
View Analytics: Give access to the family analytics dashboard
Approve Completions: Let them approve task completions
To manage permissions:
Go to the Circle tab in the bottom navigation
Tap on the Co-Parent’s name
Toggle permissions on/off
Changes apply immediately
Tip
Power-Up Tip: Most families give Co-Parents full permissions so both parents can manage tasks equally!
Adding Children
There are three ways to add children to your circle:
Method 1: Child Signs Up Themselves
Share the circle code and let your child create their own account:
Share your 4-character Circle Code with your child
They open Questmo and select Child as their role
They enter a nickname (this becomes their username)
They enter your circle code
You receive a join request notification
Approve their request from Circle Management
Tip
Power-Up Tip: Younger children may need help entering the circle code - sit with them for the 2-minute setup!
Method 2: Create Child Account from Circle Management
Parents and Co-Parents can create child accounts directly — no need for the child to sign up themselves:
Open the Circle Management screen (Circle tab in the bottom navigation)
Tap the Add Child icon in the upper right of the app bar
Enter a nickname for the child (must be unique within the circle)
Tap Create Child Account
Method 3: Create Child Account from the Home Screen
You can also create a child account directly from the Parent or Co-Parent home screen:
Scroll to the children cards row on your dashboard
Tap the last card labeled “Create Child Account”
Enter a nickname for the child (must be unique within the circle)
Tap Create Child Account
Note
Quest Note: When a Parent creates a child account, the child is added to the circle automatically. When a Co-Parent creates a child account, the circle owner (Parent) must approve it first — just like a regular join request.
How the child signs in after account creation:
Once you create the account, the child can sign in using:
Nickname: The nickname you chose during creation
Circle Code: Your family’s 4-character circle code
That’s it — no email or password needed! Share these two pieces of information with your child.
Important
Achievement Unlocked: Creating accounts from Circle Management or the Home Screen is the fastest way to get younger children started — no need to hand them your phone!
Note
Quest Note: Child accounts use a special secure authentication system. They log in with their nickname and the circle code - no email or password needed!
Editing a Child’s Name
Need to change a child’s nickname? Only the Parent (circle owner) can rename children:
Open the Circle Management screen (Circle tab in the bottom navigation)
Tap the pen icon on the side of the child’s card
Enter the new nickname
Tap Save
The new name syncs instantly — the child’s login credentials update automatically, so they’ll use the new nickname to sign in next time.
Tip
Power-Up Tip: Renaming a child updates their login nickname everywhere, including sign-in. Make sure to tell them their new nickname!
